French writer, Simone Weil once said, “To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognized need of the human soul.” Part of the mission of America’s Kids Belong is helping kids do just that. To be rooted and experience belonging in their communities as they navigate their journeys in and out of foster care. Our mission also involves helping foster families find their rootedness within their communities. To be more supported and connected so they can be at their best as foster parents. So they can be the type of support and stability needed for the kids who are navigating difficult transitions and experiencing the uprooted nature of entering foster care.
Helping Create Awareness and Belonging
America’s Kids Belong launched The Foster Friendly Podcast in July as a new resource to help educate and inspire people on all the ways to engage foster care. The podcast showcases stories and insights from former foster youth, frontline caseworkers, foster and adoptive parents, business owners, faith leaders, nonprofits, and others who are making an impact in this space all across the country. It’s for people who know nothing about foster care all the way to people deep in the trenches
The podcast also features guests talking about really relevant and practical issues around foster care: things like overcoming educational hurdles, fostering kids with special needs, adoption from foster care, foster care 101 basics, fostering as a single, and navigating emotions and triggers around the holidays. With much more great content to come!
It’s been an overwhelming success so far and just 18 episodes in has already hit the top 25% of podcasts in terms of downloads!
