Caring For Sibling Groups And Other Pressing Needs In Foster Care

Tuesday, Sept. 26

Learn how you can help meet the most urgent needs in foster care; teens, sibling groups and kids with therapeutic needs.

We Have One Mission: Family

At America’s Kids Belong we dramatically improve the experiences and outcomes for kids in foster care.

We are working to solve 2 of the most urgent obstacles to kids finding safe, loving families:

  1. Foster Recruitment: There are only half as many licensed foster homes as there are kids in care.
  2. Foster Retention: When a new family gets licensed, half of them quit in the first year.

1. INCREASE foster and adoptive parent recruitment to ensure a family for every child.

2. IMPROVE foster family retention by equipping Foster Friendly communities to wrap around families to help them foster longer and stronger.

3. ACCELERATE achievement of recruitment and retention goals by leveraging the convening authority of the governor’s office in our states to forge coalitions for change.

Consider Adopting An Older Child or Sibling Group

When reunification with a child’s biological family is not possible kids in foster care may become eligible for adoption..

Whether you’re just beginning the journey to foster, you’re a seasoned foster parent considering adoption or you’re someone with a heart for vulnerable kids, we hope you’ll take a few minutes to meet and learn from some of the amazing kids seeking families. And then consider what you can do to make a difference. Not everyone is called to foster, but we’re all called to care.

What’s A Family Worth?

Of all the ways to care for kids in foster care, a family has the greatest ability to transform their lives and futures. Kids who age out without belonging to a family are at far greater risk for many social wounds:

Become justice-involved

1 in 4

Drop out of high school

1 in 2

Become homeless within 18 months

1 in 2

Become addicted

And three-quarters of young women will experience an unplanned pregnancy before age 21 and increase the risk of perpetuating a generational cycle of foster care.
