From Foster Care to the Marines: Jackson’s Legacy Gives Others a New Opportunity

The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy. – N.D. Kalu

In a recent episode of the Foster Friendly Podcast, hosts Courtney Williams and Travis Vangsnes welcomed Sarah Davis and Andrea Forringer, board members of Jackson’s Gift. This organization is dedicated to honoring the legacy of Andrea’s adoptive son, Jackson, who tragically lost his life during a military training accident in 2023.

Jackson’s Journey:

Jackson’s life was marked by both great difficulties and amazing resilience and determination. Entering the foster care system at a young age, Jackson faced the instability and challenges that come with moving between different homes. Throughout his time in foster care, Jackson often lacked a stable support system, which is a common struggle for many children in similar situations.

Later he was adopted but the placement was not ideal and involved an abusive situation, which he eventually fled from. Thankfully, Jackson found a more supportive and loving environment with his second adoptive family. This new family provided him with the stability and care he needed, allowing him to thrive and pursue his dreams.

Speaking of dreams, from a young age, Jackson aspired to become a Marine, a dream he pursued with unwavering commitment. His journey from foster care to the military is a testament to his strength and dedication. Despite the challenges he faced, Jackson’s spirit remained unbroken, and he achieved his goal of serving in the U.S. Marines.

The Mission of Jackson’s Gift:

Jackson’s Gift was established to continue Jackson’s legacy of support and compassion for kids in foster care. The organization focuses on assisting those aging out of the foster care system who choose to join the military. By providing resources and support, Jackson’s Gift aims to ensure that these young individuals have the foundation they need to succeed in their new endeavors.

Jackson’s Gift not only provides financial assistance but also fosters a sense of belonging and family for those who may feel alone. The organization embodies Jackson’s dream of helping others and making a positive impact on the lives of the kids they serve.

Jackson’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make in this world. Through Jackson’s Gift, his legacy of love and support continues to touch the lives of many and will continue to do so.
