Foster Friendly

Children and youth in Indiana’s foster care system need safe, loving families and supportive communities in order to thrive and achieve their potential. Foster families are of critical importance, and while not everyone can be a foster family, everyone can do something. Businesses can make a difference by helping create a more “foster friendly” culture in Indiana.

What Can I Do?

How can I make an impact through my business to create a more foster friendly Indiana?

Foster families can go from 2 kids at their breakfast table to 5 kids at their dinner table. Suddenly, things like eating out, going to the movies, etc., might become a little out of reach. Offering discounts or freebies to these families lightens their financial load and helps them be seen in our community, and it also encourages others to consider becoming foster parents themselves when they see how the local business community supports them. Some (not all) foster families receive stipends to help with extra expenses, but this often does not cover the entirety of their care or provide for related family expenses (e.g. if biological kids are in gymnastics class, it would be great to be able to enroll kids placed through foster care as well). The possibilities are endless, but here are a few examples: Kids eat free with paying adult | 20% off entire purchase | Buy 1, get 1 free (activity, camp, tutoring) | Free theme park ticket with purchase of new vehicle.

We can help you educate and engage your employees to raise awareness and help them see how they can support kids and families in foster care, or we can consult with you about foster friendly HR practices.

Empower older youth exiting foster care without a family by helping with challenges such as clothes for a new job or a laptop for school; or work with us to offer internships or apprenticeships.

IKB works with churches and businesses to raise awareness, recruit more foster families, and provide foster friendly services and support. We work with DCS and the creative community to make high-quality 2-minute videos for kids in foster care who are legally free for adoption so they can tell their own stories to prospective adoptive families. Your one-time or ongoing tax-deductible financial investments in our work can help us deepen our impact and broaden our reach across Indiana.
