I like music. My favorite genre of music is K-pop and I like a lot of groups. I like to sing when nobody’s watching.
Makayla is friendly, respectful, and a little bit shy — but once she warms up to you, you’ll see that she’s a great friend and really easy to talk to! Unlike some teens, she loves school — and is quite proud of being a straight A student!
She works hard to keep her grades up, although admits that she doesn’t have to work as hard in math…it just seems to come naturally to her. A big fan of graphic novels, Makayla likes reading just about anything — and she can usually figure out how the books end before she gets there!
Introverted and artistic, Makayla likes to spend her time drawing; lately she’s been working on a collection of her favorite K-Pop bands! (She adores K-Pop.) Makayla describes her perfect day as going on a picnic with friends, then seeing a movie with all her loved ones! Her faith is very important to her, and she would appreciate a family that goes to church regularly. Just as important to Makayla are her siblings. She would like to maintain a relationship with them, so it’s important that her adoptive family be willing to encourage that bond and ongoing connection.
Makayla would do well in either a one- or two-parent home and would like at least one female parent. She would prefer to be the only child in the home, and hopes for a mom that she can confide in and learn from as she grows into young adulthood.
Makayla will thrive with a family that displays patience and understanding while making communication a priority. Parents should be able to demonstrate to Makayla that they delight in her and value her for who she is.
Trusting doesn’t come naturally to Makayla, and it may take her a bit to warm up to a new family; parents should be willing to conduct a transition at her pace and be consistent in their commitment to her. Stability and routine are important for Makayla, as they help her feel secure. Interested families should understand the impact trauma can have on children.
