America’s Kids Belong has one mission when it comes to improving the experiences and outcomes for kids in foster care: FAMILY. We focus on two profound problems in the foster care system:
There are only half as many licensed foster parents as kids in care.
Half of new foster parents quit within year one.
Our 2024 FosterCon webinar series is a powerful way to address these challenges. The series was created to recruit and retain foster parents by providing a platform for advocacy, education and support for the thousands of inquiries we generate each year from people interested in fostering and/or adoption.
Last fall AKB piloted national fostering panels on topics ranging from “What It Means to Engage Foster Care” to “Sibling Groups And Other Pressing Needs In Foster Care,” and “How To Thrive As A Foster Parent.”
Catalyst to Action
Just want to say thank you all so much. This was the best and most informative panel I have ever attended. I’m feeling very positive about this journey now and thank you all for taking the time to share.
This panel was an easy way to learn more about becoming a foster parent. The panelists were knowledgeable and I gained a lot of valuable information. The best part is I could do it from my computer so it was easy to fit into my schedule.
Having panelists who were once in the foster care system themselves was a tremendous bonus. Excellent presentation by all.
I loved hearing the personal stories and gaining from their experience. It was helpful to know what questions those considering foster care have and the barriers to moving forward so I can better advocate and educate.
Great information on fostering! Fostering children is difficult at times but it is extremely rewarding!
